Anne came to the English throne in 1702.  The sister-in-law of William III, Anne was a stout middle aged, fretful, affectionate and essentially ordinary woman who sought much advice from those around her especially John Churchill, Earl of Marlborough, the country’s greatest soldier and diplomat. It was in her reign that the Scots and English joined in the act of Union of 1707. The new Britain became the world's most powerful nation for the next 200 years.

Collectors of early guineas will know gradable Queen Anne's are extremely rare. There were very few minted in the first place, and almost all have now been melted down or destroyed over the centuries. The remaining ones nearly always have problems ranging from ex jewellery to cleaning, and are not gradable on the Sheldon scale.
